"It was a lovely brisk autumn Sunday November 1 in Montreal, so I took the opportunity to stroll downtown to The Bay to buy some Ahava products. Ahava is a privately owned Israeli cosmetic company, and yesterday - the Sabbath, on purpose so no Orthodox Jews could be there - a group called Tadamon joined with the Quebec BDS Committee (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) to stage a boycott outside The Bay of Ahava products. Ahava is a frequent target of Israel-haters, and I will tell you why presently.Read it all.
"Normally I wouldn't walk all the way downtown to purchase face cream, but along with a whole lot of other people who are fed up with boycotts of Israeli products just because they're Israeli, I decided to join the "buy-cott" in order to help convince Israel-haters their boycotts aren't going to work. By the time I got to The Bay, the entire Ahava stock had been pretty well wiped out. I managed to snag some kind of cream or other, I didn't care which, paid for it and then gave it to the organizers who were donating everything buycotters bought to women's shelters - one Jewish and one non-Jewish...
"The answer is that the boycotters don't actually want to stop using their computers. Also, they know that someday they or someone they love will get well or have hope that they may get better as a result of Israeli scientific advances. So they pick on the products they can happily live without. With every boycott, they look a little stupider and a little more hypocritical. Ahava means 'love' in Hebrew. BDS means 'hate' in any language. If you're need cosmetic creams or cleansers, buy Ahava. It's a fine product and by the way employs Palestinians who would be out of work if the boycott was effective."
