I have the highest regard for Solomon's apostacy from Islam, and sat through his dissertation in Toronto the next night at shul. I don;t doubt that hecould be a useful adjunct in the anti-Islamist battle.

But- frankly- keep him out of the public limelight. He comes across as a deranged lunatic, spewing chunks of the Qur'an in Arabic and in that sing-song screech of the imam. Not going to win any adherents in a post-Enlightenment Western democracy reliant on Cartesian logic...

Anon - I didn't ask Sam about it, so this is only my guess, but I think that's precisely the point.

He wants us to hear what it sounds like in Arabic with the correct intonations, and not all prettied-up for Western consumption.

Plus, this immediately prevents anyone from claiming that Sam can't quote from or correctly interpret Islamic scripture because he can't speak or read Arabic. He can and he does. He's studied it, he knows it by heart, he can preach it like the best (or worst) of them and with that authority he can tell us what it means and why it matters. And, knowing all of that, he chose to leave Islam: that alone is an indictment.

I found his arguments to be reasonable. I'm going to read his two books, which seem to be laid out in a logical fashion.
